Marketed by AstraZeneca, Crestor is a cholesterol lowering medication included in a class of drugs called statins. There are serious questions about the safety of this class of drugs. Crestor and other statins are associated with a deadly muscle disorder called rhabdomyolysis and massive kidney failure.
Other statins have been removed from the market because of the serious health hazards they have exhibited. One such statin is Baycol, its manufacturer, Bayer, withdrew the drug from the market in 2001.
Since Crestor's FDA approval in 2003, it has proved to be one of the most dangerous statins. Cases of muscle damage and kidney failure began to surface shortly after the drug was released on the market. Public Citizen, a consumer watchdog group, called for withdrawal of the drug only five months after FDA approval citing at least one death and multiple cases of muscle damage and kidney failure.
We feel that Crestor is a prescription drug that presents a serious threat to public health. If you or a loved one has suffered from rhabdomyolysis and/or kidney failure while taking Crestor, contact an experienced attorney immediately.
